Aeromonas hydrophila is a Gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium with a single polar flagella and a facultative anaerobic organism which is found in a variety of aquatic environments worldwide. A. hydrophila is considered an important fish pathogen producing haemorrhagic septicemia and furunculosis, disease known as "Motile Aeromonas Septicemia" (MAS) or "Red-Sore Disease". Several putative determinants of virulence for fish have been described. |
